This is going to be a kind of rant about the AMAZING chapter you just posted of WHTD lol.

First, I loved loved loved the scene between Gaon and Elijah. They are so cute!!!!! However, as I was reading it and enjoying every second of it, I don't know why I had this sort of apprehension. I felt like we will loose this kind of easy bond for a short time in the future. Wether this is the case or not, you can totally ignore what I said lol.

I love how Elijah is written. It is a perfect balance of all the reactions and choices someone who has gone through so much like her would have. Not to mention that she is a teenager nearing adult life, which a struggle of its own even for people who had a non traumatic life.

I am very interested in the case and how it will be solved! Hopefully, Mrs. Thongsuk doesn't suffer any more than she already did.

Now, coming to what I really wanna rant about. The scene between Yohan and Gaon!!! It was so beautifully done. It broke my heart in several places, for both of them.

Yohan obviously wants to be there for Gaon, to help him and be in his life but he doesn't want to make Gaon uncomfortable and burden him because he knows that Gaon has a lot of mental health issues at the moment. However, when talking with Gaon and them somewhat behaving like they normally would before the rejection, he started to slip into his old self with Gaon. And he is afraid to show any emotion or be vulnerable in any way, which would make it obvious to Gaon how much Yohan still loves him and that would result in Gaon feeling even more guilty. And, of course, Yohan also wants to protect himself from any more heart break.

Gaon is obviously devastated when he finds out how hurt Yohan is and how much he's trying to hide.

When I tell you, I was smiling and crying at the same time. But I loved it, because Gaon needs to be pushed like this so he can change his perspective and see how him rejecting Yohan was a wrong decision for both of them. Gaon thinks that he was doing it for Yohan's and his sake but I feel that he will see that isn't the case in the near future.

We have weeks of Yohan and Elijah still in Korea with Gaon, so hopefully Gaon will find a good therapist and start sorting through everything he's feeling. Add to that all these revelations he's been having in the last few chapters, I hope they'll have sorted what's happening between them to a certain extent.

I'm just a little anxious and excited about what will happen after Gaon acknowledges that he made the wrong choice and starts rectifying it. Yohan will obviously not believe him so easily, and I feel like Gaon will get hurt in many instances before they fix stuff. Both of them have insecurities that will make it difficult for Gaon in the future. However, when that happens I will enjoy it fully like I've been enjoying every chapter of this amazing fic.

Sorry for the rambling 😭. I just felt the need to send this to you and ask about your health. I know things are tough, but I believe in you and your strength. I may be a stranger on the internet but I've been following you for a while and have seen how much shit you've had to endure, and how you always persisted and came out of it victorious. Everyone has lapses and times that test us, but the people who win are the ones who stay after going through every test life throws at them. You have won many times, and you will win in the future.

I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter! And yeah, I just love that scene with Elijah and Ga On! They're so sweet together! And I guess that you should expect a bit of a hiccup eventually since Elijah is going to need a moment to get used to Ga On and Yo Han being in a relationship. But that's still far away at this point and the biggest issue the two of them will have. So I don't think you need to worry too much?

I think one of the important things about Elijah (if one wants to keep her in character) is that she's still just a teenager. A teenager with a lot of problems and trauma, like you say. And while she's very intelligent and quick-witted, she's not particularly charming? She can charm people, sure, but that's not the same as being a charming person. If she's being her genuine self, she's abrasive, straightforward, and determined. And I really like that about her. She's not some cardboard cut-out of a teenager who's quirky and playful — she's an actual person with both good and bad sides. And trying to handle her is a handful sometimes, as many people can attest to xD

I admit that I might put more effort into the cases than strictly necessary sometimes. I mean, they're important for the plot, sure, but they're not meant to be the main focus as such. But this time the progression of the case is tied to Ga On's progress in gaining more confidence, so it's featured a little more than usual. And I hope the conclusion won't disappoint!

The scene between Ga On and Yo Han was such a mess, but in a necessary way, yes. Because even if it hurts for them both, Ga On needs to realise just how wrong he was, thinking that Yo Han is somehow able to just shut everything off. Because of course he's not. Yo Han desperately wants to be there for Ga On but he's been told that he can't, so he's trying not to overstep. But the moment he begins to relax? It comes creeping back. Because he's just helplessly attached to Ga On at this point. He genuinely can't help it.

And Ga On is going to realise his mistake pretty soon. He will need another couple of pushes, but I'm going to make sure that he gets them. He's been working up to this slowly but surely and the therapy will help even more. As will a couple of conversations he's going to have with both Elijah and Yo Han in future chapters.

As for how Yo Han will react when Ga On changes his mind? He's going to be pretty suspicious, yes, and he's not going to be able to simply brush off all the pain he's been put through. But, that said, he's also too in love not to feel hopeful. So he won't be unreasonable or vindictive. Just... understandably cautious? And, in all honesty, pretty fascinated once he realises that Ga On is actually serious xD

So while it will hurt, it's also going to be something to look forward to, because there will be flirting — mutual flirting this time. And Yo Han is going to have the time of his life because Ga On is going to have to be the one to initiate it. And, as we all know, Yo Han loves watching Ga On's embarrassed fumbling.

And is going to make Ga On's life even harder by flirting back, which just makes Ga On even more flustered.

So you can look forward to that, I guess? xD

I admit that things haven't been easy lately and I'm very annoyed with how tired and unfocused I've been. I had high hopes for this year — especially when it came to Who Holds the Devil — but life just kept throwing me curveballs and I'm frustrated to find that I haven't been able to write nearly as much as I would have liked. But that's just life, I guess?

My plan for the rest of this year is to focus on finishing things that I'm really close to completing. That unfortunately means that Who Holds the Devil might be taking a backseat for a couple of weeks, but I know I'll feel better if I'm able to finish some of my ongoing projects. The fewer things I have to distract me, the better. Not to mention that finishing things gives me a feeling of productivity and satisfaction that I deeply crave right now.

So yeah. I'm sure I'll get through this as well in the end and, for now, I'm going to focus on finishing half-finished projects and goals.

About Snake's death

*Edit: I had to edit out a mistake I made, which was that I wrongly assumed the 20+ people Agni hung upside down in London had died! Thank you for letting me know in the comments and apologies for that! The main focus of the post still stands of course, which is to consider and wonder how the rules of justice in Kuro are applied and which are the rules exactly, if there are any. I also couldn't deny myself of adding a few other things, I once again hope you will tolerate my tendency to ramble on too much!*

From what is generally understood, Yana has a penchant for punishing characters for their wrong doings. I'd mentioned before that we can see this in Snake's case with him getting cut in the same side of the neck that Phelps got the snake bite on. It doesn't look like a coincidence, especially knowing how Yana operates in terms of details and foreshadowing. *Edit: I should like to add that Phelps dying was an accident. Snake, although he wanted to kill Smile, really didn't kill Phelps, specifically, on purpose. I've read someone argue that Snake isn't even to blame for the murder as it was a black mamba who killed Phelps, not Snake. I do not share that opinion, simply because he was the one who sent the snake. But it's still an interesting thought to consider as in "what does the author think or consider in this case?"* This being said, it's still a little hard to stomach that Snake should be dealt with in this way. I will try to explain what I mean. He died not even properly acknowledging Doll's presence, nor all his snakes surrounding him. He saw Finny leaving him behind. He died alone in his mind, wondering why he had such a horribly unfair life, treated like an animal, getting tricked and lied to by everyone, not understanding why or having anyone explain anything to him about why he was made a fool by everyone.

As he had just realized he was in the middle of it all, he was killed. He was dead before he could understand what had been happening all this time. Take Agni for instance, one of my dear long time favourite characters. He died a violent death, but at least died peacefully and happy that he got a chance at redeeming himself by doing good and living for Soma, after his sinful past in which he said he'd lived a life of sin in India and that he "hurt a lot of people". He did get sentenced to death but we don't know for certain, if what he'd done included killing. So I will still refrain from taking that into account. *Edit: Here's a link to a separate post I made, explaining why I assumed Agni had killed those people in London*

So all things considered, why did Agni die with a smile on his face, while Snake died with "why-?" as his last words? Indeed, why..?

I wonder if Yana is also taking into consideration the envenomation of the soldiers in the Emerald Witch arc to up the numbers? If we were to consider this to be Yana's "sword of justice" (haha sounds quite dramatic!), should we expect to see other characters dying such abominable deaths? Because there are so many characters who have killed a lot people and others that have killed some. Starting with the Phantomhive servants and ending with Wolfram, it could be a lengthy list. *Edit: Take Baldroy for example, he likely killed too many to even count. If there's such a concept as a "sword of justice", I dread to even wonder what will happen to him in the end.* Of course, don't consider for a moment that I'm wishing such things! I'm simply entertaining the possibility of this implicit method of justice being employed by the author, if, we were to consider that Snake's death came as a sort of payback for Phelps, that is all. Part of me wishes Snake's death would have been handled with a little more gentleness and grace. As he's such a kind hearted character... he didn't even get the chance to understand what he'd unknowingly gotten dragged into. But alas, this is the Kuroshitsuji universe after all where life's injustices are abound!

Nadeem's Big Febuary 2024 Next Fest Roundup

I've done these little demo roundups for the past couple of nextfests in a more informal capacity, but I wanted to make this one more of an actual Thing and do something like this going forward, since I tend to play around 70-100 of the demos for each nextfest. This is going to be (hopefully) mostly a list of recommendations, but I also have some ones that I'm not strictly recommending that I think are still worth pointing out. I have over 20 games I wanted to point out from this round of demos, so the meat of this post will be below the cut.

The Best

Cryptmaster is a dungeon crawler typing game. It's genuinely laugh out loud funny, and it was a blast to play through with a person looking over my shoulder and commentating. There's not much to say about it that can't be figured out by picking up the game for a few minutes yourself, and there's no reason not to when it's got a free demo. I would recommend this game to basically anyone, and will be playing it as soon as it comes out. Probably the most across the board appealing game that I played from this collection.

Gatekeeper is just plain good. This was the most immediately fun game I played for this. I grow more and more irritated with rogue-lites every next fest, but Gatekeeper is fresh, fun, and fast-paced enough to get away from any distaste for the subgenre I have. Like basically all of the other optional multiplayer games on this list, GK seems to heavily benefit from a second player, but after my friend kept eating shit and dying I still had a fantastic time with this game by myself. Buy this game.

I don't play as many rhythm games as I do a lot of other genres, so if I'm totally wrong and this is just standard fare slop, you'll have to excuse me, but to my mind ADEN is a very unique and fun experience. A sidescroller rhythm/beat-em-up/bullet hell with charming art and fun music, it feels unlike basically anything I've played before, and it's wormed its way into my heart very quickly (even if I'm not quite as good at any of those types of games as I'd like to be).

The Pretty Good

Rotwood is a co-op roguelike game that's a lot of fun to play with friends. While technically 1-to-4 players, it feels like it's definitely meant to be played with at least a second party. If you do have that second party, the game goes by quickly and feels great to play - our 20 minute runs didn't feel like more than 5 minutes during our time with it. Pick it up if you want a non-PvP co-op game, but make sure at least one of your friends is picking it up too.

Cabernet is a narrative RPG set in eastern Europe in the late 1800s. You're Liza, a newly-turned vampire and a prospective doctor before your death. You don't actually get much more than that in the demo, but it gives you enough time to decide if you're interested in the full game or not. I am - it seems neat, and I'll likely be picking it up upon release, but it's not going to be for everyone. If you're into games where the meat of it is walking around and talking to people, it'll likely be a safe choice for you.

Vellum is a charming, if a little janky, co-op action roguelike where you play as fountain pens who are also wizards. As loathe as I am to compare games to others if they aren't ripoffs, it reminded me of playing Tiny Tina's, which I wasn't expecting, but made it more endearing to me. It seems like it would be less fun to play alone, but like Rotwood, just make sure you're making one of your friends grab it when you do, and it should be a lot of fun.

Dungeonborne is a game that speaks for itself very immediately when you start playing. PvPvE dungeon crawlers aren't the most popular genre, to my knowledge, but this game felt very oddly similar to another PvPvE dungeon crawler that was on display 1 or 2 next fests ago. If you and your friends want to dick around in a dungeon and kill skeletons, this is going to be a game that satisfies, and it's funny to play when you're getting yourself and your friends killed. I don't know how much long term value it'll manage to hold.

Children of the Sun is a very stylish puzzle-shooter that is not for me, but will probably be very good to whoever it is for. I would suggest trying out the demo and seeing how you feel about it. I don't have a lot to say about it beyond that, since it isn't a game I spent a lot of time with, beyond that it's very cool looking.

There is a notable absence of platformers & metroidvanias on my list of games that I played for this next fest, and it's not because there weren't any to play. I'm just very very bad at these games, moreso than any other type of game by a huge margin, and so I do not play them. Ever. There are ones I want to play quite badly, but I pick them up and put them down very quickly because I am worse at them than your average eight year old with an Xbox. I downloaded Tales of Kenzera: ZAU at the behest of a friend without knowing anything about it, and I'm glad I did. Even being as bad at this type of game as I am, I played this demo and had a lot of fun with it. I won't pick up the full game, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't. If you're anyone who has a less tragic experience with the genres than I do, you should definitely try this game out.

Love In a Bottle is a refreshing change of pace as far as romance VNs go - there are vanishingly few of them for/about lesbians and bisexual women compared to games for & about straight women & games about gay men (though these are usually also for straight women... which is not the point of this, so I digress). It's very cute! LIaB follows an only-kind-of-succubus as she moves to a new town and flirts with attractive women. I'm not quite the target audience for this, but not every game needs to be for me, and I enjoyed poking around in it regardless.

Alcyone: The Last City is a game that's hard to get much of a handle on from the very short demo alone, but you get just enough to know it's interesting. What I can glean from the game that you get in the demo is about the same as the steam description: a sci-fi interactive novel set at the end of the universe. I love this kind of shit, so I'm pretty sure I'll like Alcyone.

Pacific Drive is a game about driving your car around while some weird shit happens. That's not a dismissive summary, I'm just not sure how else to categorize it. It seems cool if you like this type of game! Unfortunately my distaste for the wretched automobile extends to video games, so this is not quite my speed, but it seems very charming.

TRIBES 3: Rivals is a PvP FPS game that seems like a lot of fun! There's just one problem with it - this type of multiplayer game isn't in the limelight anymore, and won't attract a lot of players who aren't tryharding. I don't like tryharding in multiplayer games, but it felt good enough to play that I'm willing to give it a shot regardless. I'm worried about Tribes 3's ability to survive longterm in this era of gaming, but I'm holding out at least a little hope for it. I think you should help give it a better chance of survival.

TOUCHSTARVED is a "dark romance visual novel" with five romanceable characters that look like they've either come from Dragon Age concept art or from someone's D&D campaign. If you're not into romance VNs, this game will not be for you. If you are, and you're either attracted to men or like to play romance games with them, this one feels actually better than a lot of them. The worldbuilding, though somewhat sparse in the demo, seems interesting, and the game is weirdly actually gay for a VN where the protagonist doesn't have a set gender. There are no women who are characters in this game. That's not surprising, it's just worth noting. Its dialogue is corny and the way the romanceable characters act irritating, but that's par for the course for the genre, so it's probably not going to be a dealbreaker for you if you're already playing this type of game. I'd say give it a shot if that's already the kind of game you're into, otherwise it's really not worth looking at. I doubt this game is going to win over any new fans to the genre.

The Otherwise Noteworthy

Islands of Insight is... A puzzle MMO with very bad puzzles and similarly bad online play. I don't understand why it exists. I don't understand the type of person who they think will play this. I don't understand why it's a MMO? There's no aspect of the puzzles that I saw that would be served by multiplayer, and the multiplayer functionality is so limited as to be worthless anyway. The most possible interaction you can have with another person is following them around and emoting at them while they do their own set of puzzles. This game is obviously fated to die in obscurity. Why is it a Behaviour game?

Case Files: Behind Closed Doors was the only actual FMV game that this next fest had to offer. The FMV tag is the first section of any given next fest that I look at - I'm a big fan of them, and I think they're really underappreciated, especially in today's gaming world. As a consequence, I'm normally much nicer to them than I am to most video games, but this one fell flat on its face for me. There doesn't feel like there's anything there to actually grab the player or to keep their attention, and I found myself bored with it very quickly. It doesn't help that I get more irritated with the inundation of cop games as opposed to literally anything else in the world of FMV games as time goes on, but I think even if I wasn't sick and tired of them, this game wouldn't feel worth the time it asks you to invest. It's a damn shame.

#BLUD is a game that I wanted to check out, but didn't get to actually play, because I didn't realize this demo was going to shut down after nextfest! That's on me. It seems cool, and I'll be checking it out once it's properly available, but I can't say more than that because I missed the window to play it :(.

Longstory 2, similarly, is a VN I couldn't actually play during this fest, but this one isn't my fault - despite steam having a page for the demo, it wasn't ever actually available? This one is just going on the list because I loved the original Longstory when I was 15. I'm excited for the reminder that it exists, and I'll be going back to the original to see if it holds up to my nostalgia. If it does, I'll be picking up the sequel for sure.

Bewitching Sinners is a trashy romantasy VN. There's not that much else to it. If you like trashy romance VNs, it'll be for you, and if you're not, it won't be. It gets a place on this list because there were a lot of VN demos that I opened and then very quickly closed, and I actually played all the way through this one, so it's a cut above the rest in at least its ability to keep the player from immediately ducking out of due to the evidently garbage writing.

Diets & Deities is noteworthy only in that it's the most blatant ripoff of Everhood that I've seen. It's also a significant downgrade. I like the gameplay of Everhood a lot, and I was hoping that even if this game was a ripoff, it would give me more of the same. I wouldn't love it if it did that, but I would have had a little bit of fun with the demo. It's not more of the same. It feels way worse to play, and I don't know why, but I hate it.

Meta-Ghost: The Breaking Show is all style & no substance. It's very good looking, but it offers little beyond graphics that you couldn't get in a less tired package elsewhere (read: in Hades. This game wants to be Hades so bad it overwhelms any other personality it could possibly hope to have). Similarly to Diets & Deities, it fails to improve on the game it's aping's gameplay & feeling & instead makes it worse, though not to the extreme that D&D does. The only real value I can see in this game that you couldn't get with another game is the multiplayer gimmick, but as that wasn't available in the demo, I can't say whether that makes it worth even taking a second glance at.

Serum is a survival horror adventure game that seems really cool, except it's completely fucking unplayable from how shitty the framerate is. I'd love to recommend it, because I really am interested in this game, but it is in desperate need of some fixes before I can play it, much less tell you to buy it.

Mouthwashing is also a horror game that I hesitate to recommend, but it is at least playable. The demo just shows so little of its hand that I can't even tell if it's worth playing. It clocks in at about a 20 minute runtime, and in those 20 minutes, zero things that were scary or even mildly unsettling happened. It showed a little bit of gore at the end? But that's not really much of anything. I'll be keeping an eye on its development, but I have no idea whether it'll release as a gem of the indie horror scene or as a wet fart.

You can kill me for how many VNs I've put on this list and how many I've enjoyed. Beat me, take my blood, whatever. Glam Pursuit is a game about becoming a star in a not-Hollywood fake setting. The dialogue feels like it was ripped out of Life is Strange, it's corny beyond measure, and it's just all around not very good. However... Something about it captivates me. Sifting through the extreme amount of subtitle errors and typos in this game and the painfully awkward interactions with all the characters around you, I feel like there's something of worth to be found, even if I didn't stumble upon it in the demo. Is it going to be worth it for you to pick up this game? I don't know. Do you like eating garbage if it's shiny? I do. I'll play Glam Pursuit when it comes out. I don't know if you should unless there's something wrong with you.

Thoughts on dialogue in another language? it's one of my big fic icks to be frank 😭 i simply don't think switching back and forth between two different languages does either one justice. the rhythm is different! the vibe is different! it's always always jarring and a lot of times not done well at all. i avoid it when i'm reading and i don't write it

As with most in this fandom, my smut is mostly M/M but I'm proud of the amount of F/M smut I've written. Which is a weird thing to be proud of, if this weren't Silm fandom.

2023 WIP cleanout

a couple years ago i did a major WIP cleanout and it was very satisfying, and i've been bummed out lately so i'm doing it again to cheer myself up.

i have about 200k worth of unposted/unfinished fic, and i'd like to make a decent dent in that. when i listed out my WIPs i was surprised to find that most of them i'd written past the 50% mark and for whatever reason, the fic went an unanticipated direction. instead of fixing it, i moved on. the problem is that usually the unanticipated direction is something cool and that i want to pursue, but would make the fic longer and more complicated than i want it to be, and more work than i want to put into it. once i get enough distance from a fic, it's a lot easier to see how to get it back on track.

there are many things i set down and never think about again, but if it sticks in my head for longer than a couple months, then i know i need to come back to it eventually.

so this is my accountability thread! and i'm going to lay out the steps i took to triage these fics and get them posted, in case it helps anyone struggling with the same problem.

started August 2020

this one is what inspired the cleanout, and as of yesterday it is DONE and POSTED. for the longest time it sat at about 7k when i knew it would be 10k, and i couldn't make myself write the last 3k because somehow it turned into a threesome fic with Gale and it took me a loooong time to let go of that idea. also, it required a lot of canon knowledge, which faded the longer i kept it on the backburner.

to finish it, i:

killed a few darlings (Finnick's crush on Gale)

down drafted the scenes i hadn't yet written

reread ASE while taking notes

rewatched Mockingjay 2 while taking notes

transcribed several scenes of Mockingjay 2

made a punch list of things i wanted to fix/rearrange/expand on

up drafted, dental drafted, and posted

completing it took about 15 hours across 3 days.

Lumine/Razor, Genshin Impact

started April 2021

this is an alternate beginning to genshin where the traveler finds Razor instead of Paimon. it stalled out at 5k because i wanted it to be rated M and i also wanted the characters to get all the way to Liyue, but both of those things were far more work than i wanted to put into it. so now it'll be rated G and end when they reach Mondstadt. i don't anticipate it will be more than 7k.

Before the Suns Rise

started June 2022

this one is nearly 45k and about 95% done. i set it down because 1) i got to the threesome part and writing threesomes is hard, 2) i hadn't watched the Clone Wars or Rebels yet and so i was self-conscious about my knowledge of canon, and 3) i got distracted by Lemon.

another thing that a lot of these WIPs have in common is that they're very closely tied to canon and therefore have Plot and even though i can do Plot, i find it exhausting and a little tedious.

this is a post-Vader, alt-OWK timeline fic. in the 20+ star wars fics i've written, only 5 of them are in any way related to canon, and they're all one-shots. so this one is going to be hard.

i anticipate it'll only take 5k to finish, for a total of 50k and 14 chapters.

this is my Patreon AU that's over 10k already. in it, Seungho is married to Jihwa (and cheating on him with Nakyum) and i wanted to write the whole thing through to their divorce (and Seungho Getting A Real Job), but that is just. a lot. so i'm going to write only to Seungho finally giving in to his feelings for Nakyum, with the knowledge that after season 4 is finished, i may want to continue it as a series and write the latter half as i'd intended.

i'll probably only add 1-2k, for a total of 12k.

this was the first rexsoka fic i started working on when i finished Clone Wars. i got about 10k in, scrapped it, wrote another 15k, scrapped it, and then started focusing on Organic Chemistry. also, i just got very frustrated with it. to fix this one, i think i need to lower my expectations of it, rearrange some plot points, and write the final 2-3 scenes.

maybe 3-4k more? hopefully it'll cap out under 20k.

Day 11: Tired and knowing that I really wanted to post the fic for the next day, I ended my streak today. It was worth it.

Day 12: This idea I already had a few days before, so I thought it would be done faster. On the contrary: I didn't manage to post in time, wrot the end at night, and then forgot to post it! 😭

Day 13 to Day 17: Mhm, not really feeling it anymore. I'd rather take my time with fanfics, especially if they're about intimate things like sex.

Day 18 & 19: Still, I started working on a story for Day 19, which wasn't finished by then.

Day 20-31: On one hand, I realized how crazy writing something every day would've been giving that my life is already hard enough, but on the other hand I still began new fanfics as well as sequels for the ones I'd written.

As time went on, my goal became to publish at least those, which I didn't manage to do but I'm okay with.

My overall thoughts on Kinktober:

It was a good opportunity to write things that I wouldn't have necessarily written otherwise (cause writing sexual things can sometimes feel like telling too much of yourself, even if something's not even my kink 😂😆)

Even though I'm not much of a horror fan, I wish there was more October-y/autumnal/spookiness. This month has a lot of potential, so "just" writing kinky fics doesn't feel that special to me, since I'm open to write a lot of them anyways. 🎃

Finding out about a bunch of new kinks was fun but for every one of those there were at least two I already knew, just with a different name 😂

My tips for month-long challenges:

brainstorm in advance (for example for me at least one day already helped a lot), ideally for the whole month

set realistic goals, even if they're not the same as those of other artists. Remember: a month-long challenge means that there will be more art than usual regardless of whether you participate or not, people probably won't notice that you don't post every day 🧡

My tips specifically for Kinktober:

Don't underestimate the time consent talks & foreplay can take.

though if writing this much smut is too much, you can also focus on those things 😚

If you know that "hard" kinks can be difficult for you to find out about, make your own list (not gonna lie, I was shocked at at least one kink I found on someone's list)

If the idea of purposefully writing (about) non-consensual things like rape bothers you, make your own list!❗Almost all that I looked up had some type of non-con on it without a warning beforehand.

ADHD and To Do lists

I've always hated To Do lists. I get stuff done when I make one but I have never in my life completed one and I always feel like a failure. But I've been setting myself up for failure. I had guests coming after Christmas and I made a To Do list so that I could get everything prepared and I decided to do it a bit differently. I wandered around my house with a pen and paper and looked at every nook and cranny for things I needed to do, I didn't pressure myself to do the jobs there and then, because that would just distract me from what I was trying to accomplish which was actually remembering everything that I needed to do, I just made my list and trusted myself to do the jobs now that I had a written reminder so it wouldn't just slip my mind until the next time my eyes landed on it.

I made my list suuuuuuuper detailed. Like I had 200 items on it, but the vast majority of them were tiny tiny 30 second - 1 minute jobs. I could knock out 20 items in half an hour then let myself sit down and cross them all off the list and relax because I'd accomplished a lot.

With ADHD we all have those things that become part of the background, like the paperclip that fell on the floor 2 months ago and you keep meaning to pick it up but forget anytime you go near it - I put the damn paperclip on the list. Or I had a black robe hook that I'd had to hang with a silver screw and seeing that bright silver against the black annoyed the hell out of me and I kept meaning to just color it in with a sharpie, it was like that for 6 months before I put 'find a sharpie' and 'color in screw' and 'put sharpie away' on my list.

Which brings me to breaking a job into component parts on your list. Actually locating a working sharpie, then taking it to my bedroom where the screw was, and then coloring in the screw, then putting the sharpie away, were all individual points where I might get distracted and not complete a job if i just put 'color in screw' on my list. So I broke the job into 3 separate items. I found a sharpie and got distracted throwing out all the non working pens I found while I was looking for it. Then I sat down and was able to at least cross off 'find a sharpie' and not feel bad that I hadn't completed the job. Then I needed to take stuff to my bedroom so I took the sharpie as well and actually colored the screw, then dumped the sharpie on my dresser and forgot about it. When I went back to my To Do list I was able to tick off 'color in screw' and remembered I still needed to put the sharpie away, so next time I took stuff to my room I grabbed the sharpie and put it back where it was supposed to be. If I hadn't broken the job down I wouldn't have let myself cross anything off until I'd put the sharpie away, because that was the point where my brain said the job was completed, but I would have kept forgetting to put the sharpie away and feeling like crap because I hadn't completed the job and couldn't cross it off.

Another example of this gives me another point where I've made my To Do lists more ADHD friendly - break the job down and if the job grows then just add items to your list. If I have 10 things that don't belong on a table and just put 'clear table' on my list - it is NEVER gonna be crossed off. I'll take the 3 items that belong in the kitchen and get distracted, then maybe the 2 things that belong in my bedroom and get distracted again. In the mean time 5 more things have accumulated on the table, I've still got 10 things on the table, the 5 things I've put away don't count, I'm a failure who will never manage to clear this damn table, I might as well give up. If I make each item on the table it's own job on the list I can cross them off individually and see that I am accomplishing stuff even if the table doesn't look much better. I've given myself credit for the work I've already done putting those 5 items away and by adding the 5 new items to my list I've got motivation to complete the job - I've scratched off 5 items already, 10 more are do-able.

I've also let myself have rolling items. I'll look at a list and find most of the items are scratched off and I'm having trouble finding things that still need doing. I'll start a new list and roll those uncompleted items over to it then add anything new that's come up. I can throw out the old list (and put throwing away the old list as an item on the new list so I can cross it off) and start fresh. So I didn't get everything done? That's okay, it's still on my list, I'm still gonna get it done, I'm just not gonna pressure myself or sit with a mostly completed To Do list looking at me and making me feel guilty.

I've also put things I was gonna do anyway like 'take a shower' or 'prep dinner' on my list. That way I don't forget to do them while I'm busy accomplishing everything else and I'm not in a mad rush to get them done. I've put 'brush my teeth' on a couple of my lists because I'll get distracted cleaning the kitchen after breakfast and forget.

what are 3 things you’d say shaped you into who you are?

ooooh bloody hell. let's see. 1. being an only child in a single parent household. it's made me very happy with my own company (sometimes to a fault) and very close with my mum. also probably contributed to why my inner fantasy life is so active lmao 2. having a period of very poor mental health through my teenage years/early 20s. i basically lost the years between 13-23. it's made me very careful about looking after myself now i'm older and it forced me to have to understand myself more. it's also made me more keenly aware of not wasting more time. 3. art school. i went to a fairly prestigious art school in london and it really opened my eyes to class (i'm northern and working class) - it was the first time i'd really come across PROPERLY priveleged people (a close friend was the daughter of a tory mp and i was later a bridesmaid at her wedding at westminster palace lmao, weirdest day of my life) and realised just how much the world was skewed to their success. also made me realise i like making art but i hate the art world and most art people. still wanna write an art school AU one day.

19. favourite thing about the day?

when i'm having a good head period and can manage it, my morning routine is the best. i get up and make my lil coffee (V60 4 lyf) and then sit down and write for an hour - i like writing first thing before my brain is knackered from Life - and listen to lauren laverne's 6music show, then i read for however long i have left before work. sometimes i'll burn incense or a nice candle. for a while i was doing morning pages too although i find them a drain long-term. it's just my time, yknow? i try not to look at my phone or anything.

i'm going to be moving to a partly office-based job again and not being able to do my morning routine on those days is the thing i'm most upset about.

20. favourite things about the night?

i'm the kind of person who has a brain that is constantly chewing on to-do lists and anxiety spiralling about All The Things I Must Do and i like feeling like i am mostly done with the day's tasks by evening (even though i find it hard to stop percolating them or adding more sometimes). recently i've got into the habit of listening to shaun keaveny's daily grind podcast on my headphones while i cook my dinner which is a rly nice way to mark the end of the workday, although i guess that's evening more than night.

i like that the night can be either end of the spectrum - it can be the time for extreme cosiness, feeling safe and protected and sleepy, or it can be the time for excess and sleaze. when all the hidden things come out to play!

Deconstructing Daphne Greengrass

Ice Queen. Borderline sociopath.

Rich girl with a a heart of gold.

Well, in the last 20 years or so there have been many, many Daphne Greengrasses in fanfic.

And I'd just like to say, my name is An Orc, and I'm here to burn it all down. And yes, I'm aware that I've written tropey Daphne Greengrass fics.

But also, I've written, and continue to write fics where Daphne isn't quite as much of a paint-by-numbers love interest.

Though I've got a fic that deconstructs that too in the works, because of course I do. (Healer Harry and the annoying impatient. Maybe coming late 2025)

Before I dive into the details, I'll lay out some basic ground rules. Don't worry, I'll explain where this goeth eventually. Oh, and we're going to use snippets from Cursed Child, because nothing in life is totally worthless. Not even bad fanfic. (Dr Hadley on Youtube has a great vlog about Daphne, and has written Daphne into fanfic, so if you wanted background, go watch that. He's also quite funny.)

Daphne's Blonde.

Daphne's got blue eyes.

Daphne's a girl.

Daphne isn't a genderbent Draco Malfoy. There's no point in doing that.

Has a little sister called Astoria.

There's a blood malediction that's going to kill Astoria.

Daphne has at least a passing resemblance to 'Anonymous Slytherin girl extra' in the film "Order of the Phoenix"' (Who isn't that anonymous, and apparently at least at some point found the whole Daphne Greengrass phenomenon all rather funny.)

The ship is called Haphne, and it's Harry Potter and Daphne Greengrass.

Daphne Greengrass canonically has an OWL Practical just before Hermione Granger in Order of the Phoenix, the book. She never appears before or after in canon.

Daphne was in Slytherin house and is a pureblood. (That's in the Hogwarts 40, ephemera from JKR that she used in planning. Shame she didn't do some remedial maths beforehand too.)

Epilogue? What Epilogue. EWE is the fan movement that simply rejects JKR's epilogue as well, trash. I'm signed up unless I'm not.

Now, those are the things I regard as 'immutable' parts of a given OC called Daphne Greengrass. And I'm a book reader, who happened to see the films first, so I don't much care what mess various directors made of the setting.

So, first off, I'll lampshade #1 by saying that Daphne is blonde, for some value of bleach. (I have an old female friend who there's only one person alive that remembers her actual natural hair colour, and well, the extra wasn't a natural blonde either, so there you go.) And while that sounds silly, it gives Daphne some... dare we say, character. Why does Daphne change her hair colour? (It's mousy brown, honestly, she just wanted not to look less plain.)

Blue eyes at #2, because she has to have eyes, and they need a colour. Blue is, if you missed it, a colour. (And there's a sodding U in it. Get over it, Americans.) And the "Book of Names" that researched all the names in the Hogwarts original 40 list from JKR, put the Greengrass surname in Norfolk, and they're probably Saxons. So Daphne has blue eyes. And may be from Norfolk.

It would be weird for a boy to be called Daphne, so that explains #3.

Number four, well, the point of a female OC is to ship Harry with her. Seriously. JKR can't write romantic relationships at all convincingly, so Harry ended up with a lump of wood in a red wig. (And that's not picking on Bonnie Wright -- she can act, and has done so since quite well. Cloves et al are hacks, which doesn't help.) Having a Slytherin, and a Pureblood girl means she's literally from the other side of the tracks. (In keeping with the tiny tatters of CC we can regard as 'not shit', Greengrasses are fare more politically moderate than Malfoys.) We never really got to see how the SP lived, and this lets us go wild.

Badly written Regency romances are a fandom trope. I'm no less guilty, but that's jsut, like, an opinion.

There's a legend that JKR intended the Non Nazi Slytherin Students to come back from Hogsmeade with Horace Slughorn, when he leads the people of Hogsmdade as reinforcements in the battle of Hogwarts. As a writer, the setup is all there in the text, but, alas, the last three books (at least) have shoddy editing due to the massive amounts of gold they were making. So she left it out, and that leaves the implication that they're all Nazis. Literally 'Evil House.' Which is far too simplistic a view, and my god you did a personality test on eleven year olds, and now a quarter are Death Eaters. To coin a phrase, Bad Rowling, No. Being ambitious isn't evil. (And having met, over the course of many years, some quite evil people who were not ambitious, there's Death Eaters in Hufflepuff.) So Rowling left that out. I'm actually okay with the idea that the Slytherins that weren't evil hid in their dorms and common room during the Battle of Hogwarts. They'd had rubbish Defence Against the Dark Arts teachers for at least five years out of the last seven, so most of even the Seventh years were sitting ducks; just like Voldemort intended. That DADA curse is 'preparation of the battle-space,' as was making sure Snape was a bastard to Potions students. Less Aurors, less Healers. A nation weak, ready to be taken over.

Number five, having Daphne have a sister, family etc, well, there are great 'Daphne Greengrass is a penniless orphan' fics, but I'm trying to parody what's there, so she'd better have a family. And that lets Harry meet a magical family that aren't the Weasleys. That would make two families he's met. In total. (And I can lampshade the ever-loving putty out of Harry having a tiny circle of friends.)

Number six, the blood malediction, possibly a Greengrass family curse, is free conflict, so what's not to love. Also, it means there's a real risk Daphne herself may be at risk of snuffing it. And a mystery for Harry to solve. If only to discover why that Greengrass girl's trying to break into the restricted section.

(Oh, and I just had a sodding plot bunny.)

Number seven, there's a running theme in fan wish-fulfillment that Daphne Greengrass must be gorgeous. The only thing is, that surely, we'd see that mentioned in the books. Ginny Weasley is gorgeous, Cho Chang is gorgeous. And Harry's possibly a tiny bit superficial. I generally regard this is just cringeful, and I love trying to squeeze sense from the world-building. If a girl was really pretty, she'd be mentioned in the book, right? (Ignoring that JKR didn't make enough characters for the roll size she wanted for Hogwarts etc etc.) In a way, (it's called parodic deconstruction, I think?) so Daphne must either be... good looking but not stand out, or she had a glow-up after school. She's also not atrociously ugly -- she's unremarkable. I parody this in one of my worse stories with Daphne literally having a magical glow-up, courtesy of her mum. A middle ground is that like the reference face from the films, she's pretty, but horsey from some angles. Fans who've met said person in ... person say actually she is gorgeous, so there's that. That further lends weight to the 'otherwise unremarkable girl' angle, where she might age into her looks, but at Hogwarts, is... shy. (Oh god, terrible Hughes films flashbacks.)

Number eight, shipping. I ship so hard I have my own harbor. In real life, actually yes. So I'm quite prepared to have fics where Daphne shock, Horror, isn't with Harry. (I've got one (not quite released yet) where he... brace yourselves... becomes friends with her post-war. And that's all. A friend. (I'll do the screwing it up in a sequel, because I am an orc. Torturing people is our thing.)

Or... is gay. Because that's a thing, folks. Some people are. It just happens. Not going to try and take on all that crap, but hey, have a gay Daphne story. She stays gay, because that's how people tend to work.

Number nine: There's a fixed point in time in canon where Daphne Greengrass exists, and did her OWL Charms Practical at the same time as Hermione. That leaves the question open if she was even at Hogwarts in Harry's sixth year. Given the reappearance of a dark lord, maybe they fled. Lots of possibilities. Also, on the flip side, sixth year is the one year Harry could really meet Daphne at Hogwarts and change canon a little but not a lot. (Or maybe with an alternative point of view in a planning session, things could go very differently indeed.) People have done 'She's actually working for Voldemort, willingly or otherwise' to death, so I've left it alone. Harry might not be a genius at telling if someones' trustworthy, but Crookshanks, Hermione's cat, is half-Kneazle and magically gifted in this regard. (See Prisoner of Azkaban.)

There's no point arguing a single point in time, unless someone wanted her to be imaginary, and that's pretty limited as a basis for a story.

Number ten: If you make her not a Pureblood in Slytherin, make her someone else. She's an OC with a name, respect the three things we already know about her. (And I'm quite prepared to skewer any Siberian Pricness, Ice Princess etc tropes at this point.)

Number Eleven: No epilogue.

Well, unless she was over and done with Harry before he married Ginny and had 2.4 children. I've played around in this non-plot non point a bit, including skewering Cursed Child repeatedly. It's quite hard to have Harry, who only wanted a family, be an absent father and still be in character. Cursed child never managed it, but I've had a couple of goes so far.

Or maybe AFTER cursed child starts. And suddenly I'm writing 40-year old Harry Potter getting divorced, meeting someone from school... there's a rich vein to mine here. And yes, I've got a satire of a Hallmark Christmas romance with Harry and Daphne post-Harry's divorce, of course I do. Maybe released late 2025 at this rate.

Now for some freeform ranting.

One of the valuable things, as a writer about Daphne is that she can be unfamiliar with muggle Britain, and Harry's a native. So you can do the wonders of... Tesco. Basically, Harry's discovery of the magical world, upside down, and backwards. Or to be posh, holding a mirror up to contemporary Britain. See that sounds all literary, and this is just fanfic.

But like any idea, I can look at the back side, and Harry could, alternatively make a complete berk of himself, trying to show someone that already kind-of-knows muggle culture and technology things, and instead of childlike wonder she can say "I had one when I was eight, Potter. I wasn't born yesterday."

And there's even room to explore the idea that maybe she doesn't have a heart of gold.

There are some fantastic fics where she's the bad guy.I haven't written any of them. Personally, I'd rather not glorify bad people. But she can easily be the 'Slytherins will take any means to achieve their ends' character. And while I can't see the attraction about writing about psychopaths, just having someone prepared to bend the rules in the service of her own life is a nice contrast to the background characters 'who do nothing'. She could even, shock, horror, be a criminal, inasmuch as she did whatever to get through the war. (And I've got a neat fic stuck in plot development hell where she's a fraudster... but not a death eater. And Harry is a post-war Auror, so he gets to play detective and play the hypocrisy card. It may be a noir detective novel in wizards robes.)

Because so many writers have tried to make Daphne very special and extra, I've gone and written 'A very ordinary girl' where Harry slowly falls in love with someone who's... an ordinary witch at Hogwarts. While that's a short story, I feel disinclined to write more in that setting, because by the end, all Daphne and Harry want in some privacy, post-war. So they get to have it, in a way, as long as I don't write another chapter of it.

And one of the interesting things is that the very idea of 'A very ordinary witch' from an ordinary magical family isn't something that appears in the books. So ah, that's really interesting, even if it requires tricky niche world-building to fit inside Rowlings quick and dirty worldbuilding.

But, given all that, could Daphne have... interests?

She could be a music dork. They don't mix with non music dorks at school much, and they can be quite unusual sorts ... once you get to know them, though they might be quite as mice outside of doing music. And we know there's a choir. Kinda.

Gobstones is a thing, but Harry doesn't play, nor do any of his friends. Therefore, book canon Daphne Greengrass might be eighth seed in the gobstones club, and Harry would never know.

People then jump onto 'she's a genius, she's Hermione's academic rival!' But that's kinda silly. And would have had Hermione grizzling about her at some point, surely?

Hogwarts doesn't have printed class rankings on the walls at any point, so Hermione, for all we know, may not actually be ... shock horror, the brightest witch at school. She studies hard, but in seven years, hadn't invented a single spell. Snape invented several by the time he was in sixth year. (Halfblood prince, his potions journal has his own spells in it.) I'm not saying Daphne is either. But she doesn't answer questions in class like Hermione, though Hermione is suspiciously quiet about all those electives she takes and the boys don't. (Maybe Daphne's an arithmancy nerd? Could be. And what would that actually mean, in practical terms?)

It's possible, nay likely that students with special interests might do better in the classes they are interested in, but they may not necessarily be the best in the school... if they are interested in something related to the class, but not in studying hard to get good exam marks. That's just how learning works.

On the other hand, Hermione Granger doesn't attend Hogwarts for the 97-98 academic year. (maybe she goes back later.) It's possible that every other student, apart from being bullied and possibly tortured by the Carrows, also had a chance to get some house points for a change without Granger hogging all the questions in class. If Daphne attended Hogwarts after 1996, she might have actually got to NEWT level in her classes. So it's possible a post-war Daphne is better at magic than say, Hermione, at least excluding Hermione's specific skills, like Polyjuice making.

Weird worldbuilding fact. In sixth year, in 'Halfblood Prince' there are 'two other Slytherins' in Potions with Harry that aren't Malfoy or Nott. And they are never named, nor are they mentioned again. One of the ''one simple trick's" of writing is to provide the bare minimum and have the readers fill in the rest. It's... possible one is Daphne.

Tracey Davis is possibly Daphne's best friend. She certainly is in many fics. She is... definitely in the same dorm in Slytherin with Daphne. I've settled on the idea they're neighbors out of school. It's the simplest possible solution of Daphne needing a bestie.

Which can't be Pansy, or we'd notice Daphne more.

And cant' be Millicent, because Daphne is at best a hanger-on in Pansy's gang. And... we'd notice Daphne more.

Happy 56th birthday, Phil! Every year I write something on this day and it usually turns into a letter to him about all the ways he’s impacted my life. Every time it seems like he's had an even bigger influence than the one before, and this year is no exception.

I scribbled something earlier, elsewhere, about how hard it has become to write about Phil Hoffman in some ways—he's become so much a part of my life that it would be like trying to describe why I love breathing so much. I just do—I have to—it keeps me alive, and I love being alive. I love being alive in large part thanks to Phil.

Today was kind of hard. I used to set a lot of expectations for myself about how things should feel, but I've learned to just accept what comes. On Phil's birthdays, I try to be happy and celebrate his life. We hear enough about his death, even from the most well-meaning people and comments. But today I really just missed him. This is the 10th birthday he has missed, which is a painful milestone, but even the number didn't mean much to me.

Maybe it's because this last year has been so good. One of the best of my life. The lessons I've learned from Phil's work and his life have helped me grow into a more confident, appreciative, and I hope kinder version of myself. He's pushed me out of my comfort zone with incredible results. Far too many things to list here—don't want to steal the spotlight from the birthday boy, after all, though I did run the NYC half marathon in his memory...—but suffice to say it's been an amazing fucking year. Most of all finally visiting Rochester and meeting Phil's mother and sister, getting to tell them he changed my life.

So now it's his birthday—the day to celebrate and honor and remember his life, the man he was, the artist he strove to be, all the amazing ways he's made a difference in the world. And there were a lot of tears because I just wish he was here for it. I knew higher highs would beget lower lows. Having walked his streets in the city and met his family and had all these real, solid experiences, maybe the fact that he's gone feels more real and solid, too.

I come back to the fact that it only hurts so badly because I love him so much. This grief is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Is it worth it? Yes, it is. It always is. Even when it’s so hard, it’s worth that pain—sometimes for what’s on the other side, sometimes for the pain itself. The lessons within it. That's what life is, Phil said, all the joy and all the heartbreak, wrapped up together and beautiful.

Tonight there was a real pretty sunset and I sat outside in the grass and finished A Prayer for Owen Meany, one of PSH's favorite books. "If you care about something, you have to protect it—if you're lucky enough to find a way of life you love, you have to find the courage to live it."

Knowing Phil—through his films, his words, his actions, his community, his spirit—has given me a life I love, full of art and harm reduction and sobriety and Proust and relationships and an overflowing DVD shelf and starting lines and the reassuring sense of his hand on my shoulder and love, and the courage to live that full life.

He was brave and could be restlessly impatient with anyone who wasn't. He infused every role with a piece of his soul—not as a Faustian bargain, but with love and understanding. He made people feel seen, whether they were standing in front of him or sitting in a darkened theater. His love was ferocious. He fought every day and stayed sober for over 20 years. He pushed himself out of his comfort zone to reach new heights as an actor. He didn't really like to be stopped on the street, but when someone once whispered, "I love you," as he passed, he turned with a big smile and said "Love you too!" One thing I wish I'd had the presence of mind to tell his mom and sister is that, in addition to his obvious talent, I've heard so many stories about what an amazing person he was.

Happy birthday, Phil—also known as BK, Heat Miser, Philly Cream Cheese, Bill Board, bubs, Slip, Clyde Anderson, my PB, The Chairman, bastard, birthday boy (among several other aliases). We've already talked quite a bit today, so I'll stick to the basics. I love you. We keep you with us all the time—so many people who love you and who you love in return, family and friends and fellow artists and fans who saw truth in the way you worked and created and lived. 20 Questions for fic writers

Note: i'm combining answers for all three of my pseuds/both accts

1. How many works do you have on AO3? 56 :)

Ana's response: "18, I'm not very prolific haha"

That's so much! iirc the average person has like 2 fics under 3k total!

2. What's your total AO3 word count? 231,440 :D

3. What fandoms do you write for? Right now it's Fullmetal Alchemist. I may or may not go back to Marvel at some point. And I may move on to another fandom at some point :)

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? Four of the five are from my Ed is Dying series c: #1, 6, 7, 3. The fifth is an HP fic I wrote in 2016.

5. Do you respond to comments? Yes! It's extremely rare that I don't; only if I have nothing to say.

Ana's answer: "Yes, just about every one! Sometimes I don't if it's been multiple years since I wrote the thing and I don't have much to say back, since I figure some people don't necessarily want the author to respond anyway."

I promise you, almost everyone wants the author to respond! And the ones who don't just aren't going to check them xD

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Oh this is an excellent question. I have to be careful here, because spoilers. The end of the first fic in my spn series ended in a suicide that was unclear that he survived (he did). And then I have the death fic for my Ed is Dying series written, that's angsty af. There's also a fic I wrote recently on my semi-secret AO3 acct that doesn't seem angsty but it really fucking is.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Uhhh... I need to go look.

I forget if Out of the Box (MCU non-sexual age regression) had a happy ending, but basically the whole fic was gentle happiness. Same with Cas and the Bee Bag (spn. This is 9 years old)

I do not appear to have any other fics that are happy. Interesting, neutral, enjoyable, positive, sure. Not happy 😂

8. Do you get hate on fics? Not thus far

9. Do you write smut? Sometimes

10. Do you write crossovers? Not usually. It's very rare that I will. The main one I can think of is unpublished, idk if I even have it tbh — I had to write a crossover fic with A Scarlet Letter for my English class in 11th grade. I chose Doctor Who xD I believe that remains the only fic i've written for doctor who.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that i'm aware of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Nope

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes! It was a blast. I forget why, but I asked my friend not to list me as a co-author.

14. What's your all-time favorite ship? Riza/Al, I think.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? My spn series. I am so many levels of uninterested, and even if I did, i'd have to rewrite it from scratch bc it's not up to par, anymore, and is extremely insensitive in parts (in particular, I have Cas using bible pages as the rolling paper for his weed. He is not xian. That's just what I remember off-hand). All that said, i would love to finish it.

16. What are your writing strengths? Emotion. Hitting the reader where it hurts.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Anything with happiness 😂

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I have done it both ways. And both are kind of cringey for me, when i've written them in the past.

Generally, the best way is to use italics to signify another language, and specify that language, as long as the POV person understands it.

19. First fandom you wrote for? HP

20. Favorite fic you've written? Talk about a good question. Probably one of the kink fics i've written. I love how i've had the characters be with each other, and shown their love for each other. I also love some of the drabbles i've made — it's hard to get a fic to exactly a word count, and getting an entire fic in so few words is a massive challenge, and very rewarding.
